What is a sun shelf in a pool?

A large sun shelf, also called a bench, ledge or Baja shelf (all names for the same element), is a raised, shallow section of the pool, usually around 15 to 20 centimetres under water. It can take the shape of a soft, gradual entry without steps, or of a wider seating ledge along the side. You can lie on it, sit on it, let children splash around or simply cool your feet without having to get fully into the water.

That shelf turns a pool from a swimming lane into a place to linger. And lingering is exactly what we believe in at Plons.

For children, the sun shelf is often the favourite spot in the whole pool. They play with pots and watering cans, experiment with water the way others do with sand, or simply read a book with their feet just wet.
